1. Onboarding & workspace setup

After verifying your email, you create a workspace that holds all of your matters, documents, and credits.

  1. Sign up from the homepage and verify your email address.
  2. Choose your practice type: Solo practice, Law firm, or Enterprise / In-house. This pre-selects the matching plan.
  3. Name your workspace (e.g. “Tan Chambers”).
  4. 50 complimentary credits land in your workspace immediately, valid for 30 days and extendable twice — no payment required.
Tips
  • Owners and admins can invite colleagues later from Admin → Team.
  • You can rename your workspace and update your profile any time in Settings.

2. Matters

Matters are the centre of Zealia. Almost every feature — chat, analysis, vault, drafts — can be scoped to a matter.

  1. Open Matters from the sidebar and create a new matter with a case name, court, and matter type.
  2. Open a matter to see its workspace: chat, documents, drafts, and analysis.
  3. Use the matter picker anywhere in the app to attach context to an AI action.
Tips
  • Accurate matter type and case name improve the relevance of authorities returned in Case Analysis.

3. Document Vault

The Vault stores and indexes your documents so the AI can ground answers in your own files (retrieval-augmented generation).

  1. Open Document Vault and upload files, or upload directly from within a matter.
  2. Wait for indexing to complete — documents are chunked and embedded for search.
  3. Reference vault documents in AI chat or analysis via the matter/document pickers.
Tips
  • Indexing is charged once per document, even if it needs a retry.
  • Organise documents per matter to keep retrieval precise.

4. AI Assistant

Your research copilot — answers, citations and drafting support with matter context, in the jurisdiction your matter sits in.

  1. Open AI Assistant from the sidebar.
  2. Optionally attach a matter or vault documents for context.
  3. Ask your question. Review cited authorities and click through to sources.
Tips
  • A question costs 2 credits all-in — one charge covering the answer and any authority or live-source checks it needs; an answer drawn from your own documents costs 3. Hover the send button to see the cost, and each answer shows the credits it used.
  • Your remaining balance sits in the account menu at the top right; hover it to see roughly how many questions it buys.
  • Always verify AI output against primary sources before relying on it.

5. Case Analysis

Generates a structured assessment of a matter: strengths, procedural issues, evidence gaps, an evidence map, and relevant authorities.

  1. Open Case Analysis and select a matter.
  2. Run the analysis. Results include score gauges, issues, gaps, and the authorities box.
  3. Toggle the evidence map between list view and the spider-web mind-map view (the mind map is the default).
  4. Previous analyses are preserved per matter — selecting a matter loads its latest analysis unless you delete it.
Tips
  • Re-run after adding new documents to the matter for a fresher picture.

6. Narratives

Build and compare case theories — storylines, timelines, and supporting facts for each side.

  1. Open Narratives and select a matter.
  2. Generate a narrative; iterate by refining your instructions.
  3. History is preserved — revisit earlier versions at any time.

7. Drafting, Trial Toolkit & Live Hearing

Drafting workspace, trial preparation tools, and real-time hearing assistance.

  1. Drafting: create and edit cause papers and letters with AI assistance in the rich editor, including rewriting a highlighted passage on instruction.
  2. Trial Toolkit: prepare examination outlines, witness lists, and objections. Witnesses can be added without assigning a matter, and generated statements save automatically into an editor.
  3. Live Hearing: start a session for real-time transcription and live assistance. Transcription is charged on the speech actually recorded, so silence is not billed.

7a. In-House & Corporate: Playbooks & Contract Review

Included on every plan and during the trial. Set your company's contract positions once, then review contracts against them.

  1. Playbooks: create a playbook and choose your position for each clause — governing law, dispute resolution, liability, indemnities, payment, termination, confidentiality, data protection, renewal and IP. Add free-text notes if needed.
  2. Contracts: paste or upload a contract, pick a playbook, and run a review (12 credits). You get a Pass / Deviates / Severe report with suggested replacement clauses.
  3. Past reviews are kept until you delete them.

8. Billing & credits

Zealia is credit-based and strictly prepaid: plans include a monthly allowance, and you buy more credits in advance with top-up packs. You are never billed after the fact.

  1. Open Billing to see your plan, balance, and usage for the current period.
  2. Choose Solo, Chambers or Enterprise. Every plan includes every feature; plans differ in credits, team seats and support. Upgrades are charged pro-rata.
  3. Buy a top-up pack at any time — checkout happens in-app via our payment provider.
  4. Enable auto top-up to prevent interruptions when the balance hits zero.
  5. Download invoices and receipts from the billing documents section.
Tips
  • Unused allowance rolls over for one month.
  • Trials and pay-as-you-go packs also unlock every tool.
  • At zero balance, AI actions pause but your data remains fully accessible.

9. Analytics

Understand where credits go — usage broken down by activity and matter, with CSV export for your records.

  1. Open Analytics from the sidebar footer.
  2. Filter by period and review the breakdown by activity, plus recent activity with the matter it related to.
  3. Export CSV for accounting or client disbursement records.

10. Admin (owners & admins)

Workspace governance: manage your team and credit allocations.

  1. Admin → Team: add members by email, assign roles (admin or member), and remove members.
  2. Admin → Enterprise Credits (Enterprise plan): grant or revoke credit allocations and review the ledger.
Tips
  • Only owners and admins see the Admin section. Server-side checks enforce this regardless of the UI.

11. Settings & security

Manage your profile, security, preferences, and account lifecycle.

  1. Profile: update your name, date of birth, address, and contact details.
  2. Security: change your password (strength meter included), reset via email, or sign out of all sessions.
  3. Preferences: choose light or dark theme.
  4. Danger Zone: permanently delete your account and its content. This cannot be undone.

12. Agent integrations (MCP)

Connect authorised AI agents to Zealia through the MCP endpoint.

  1. Point your MCP client at the Zealia MCP endpoint shown on the MCP page.
  2. Approve access on the OAuth consent screen — agents act as you, with the same permissions.
  3. Agents can list matters and vault documents; access follows your role and workspace isolation.
Tips
  • Disconnect an agent at any time to revoke its access.
